About Alex

Key Experiences

Studied Computer Science at Warwick, now work in Group Transformation
Joined the intern scheme in 2015, after the second year of my BSc Computer Science and was subsequently referred to the graduate programme. Re-joined as a graduate in 2016 after finishing my studies, and I'm now on my second placement in our Payment Systems team as a Solution Architect.

Current Position

I support the Payments team to deliver change to critical bank systems
As a member of the Payments architecture team, I've involved with large regulatory projects such as PSD2 (Open Banking), and Ring-Fenced Banking. I help put together architectural designs, I am driving our toolkit transformation piece, as well as a range of additional side-of-desk roles, such as providing technical skills to the Breakthrough Mentoring team, and sitting on the Intern Working Party 2017.

Main Motivations

Getting to be involved with high-profile projects
Regulatory projects like Ring-Fenced Banking are critical to the bank being compliant with our legal, regulatory, and mandatory requirements. Getting to be involved in projects like this is great, as you really get to see the impact your work will have on the wider LBG estate.

Top Advice

Do your research & be yourself!
Whenever you're applying for any role, getting to know the organisation is really important in being successful. If you're hoping to join LBG, then I'd recommended reading up on our three core values -- these are at the heart of everything we do in the bank, and form a key part of our recruitment processes too. Having a think about how you can demonstrate that you align with these values will be really helpful for you. Don't worry about trying to fit a mould though: we look for a diverse range of candidates, we're not looking for one specific personality type.

Greatest Achievement

Transforming our implementation processes
In my previous role, I supported our implementation weekends for Insurance, where all the IT change that has been developed over the previous quarter is implemented into our systems. Tracking the computers which we deployed to was previously quite manual, but I produced a spreadsheet that cut down the manual work significantly, helping the implementation team focus on what is important.

Lloyds Banking Group

We're looking for brilliant individuals with the potential to design and lead the Best Bank for Customers.
