Key Experiences

High School to The World of Banking
My career begun when I made the decision to leave high school at the age of 16 and join Lloyds Banking Group as an IT Apprentice. Honestly it was the best decision I ever made as I am now working my way up the career ladder, progressing, learning new skills, networking and developing day by day. I started out in the bank with the Colleague IT Service Desk taking on software queries, Order IT requests and then I eventually up skilled to taking colleague calls resetting passwords. Alongside my job role I was completing the Level 3 NVQ IT Professionals apprenticeship as well as trying to fit into and understand the working world and environment. After a year, and having completed my apprenticeship earlier than scheduled I decided to apply for a 6 month secondment in a different business area working on projects. Once the secondment was over a promotion was offered to me which I was successful in gaining. This new team has provided me with the opportunity to be creative, take ownership and responsibility of tasks and gain lots of experience from my peers.

Current Position

I am working on a cost savings initiative.
My current role in the Technology Business Management Office has many aspects to it, one being learning how to use the Apptio tool.

As part of my role I engage with Stakeholders from across IT, the Business and Finance in order to agree the Total Cost of Ownership of Platforms within the bank such as Datacentres and Storage. This helps all of the 3 speak a common language and understand the true and total cost that has been agreed upon by all parties.

Another element to my role is identifying and reporting on possible cost saving opportunities, these reports are then showcased to Senior Stakeholders who are then to drive out certain colleague behaviours in order to result in a cost reduction.

I am also the communications manager for the TBM Office and so I am responsible for ensuring our end users are being communicated with relevant and timely information on updates to the tool and new elements of Apptio they can utilise and enjoy.

Main Motivations

The vast amounts of opportunity the team provides
I really enjoy working in the TBM Office as the team is very flexible and allows me to get involved with many different aspects which means I am continuously learning new skills and being able to showcase my talent.

I also really enjoy the dynamics of the team and how we know that support is always available if required. My current position allows me to take responsibility and ownership of tasks that I see out to completion which in turn gives me recognition and builds on my management and leadership skills.

Top Advice

Believe in yourself
Based on my career experience I would say to be confident and believe you can do it because if you believe you can then everyone else will as this will reflect. I would say to take hold of opportunities that come your way and use them to thrive and really showcase talents.

Greatest Achievement

Gaining the confidence to present in front of large audiences
I think one of the key achievements for me is presenting and bringing myself to do this. Two years ago I was a shy introvert and the thought of presenting in front of large audiences was extremely frightening. I have built my confidence and presenting skills over the two years at Lloyds and I now am able to get up and present in front of large groups.

The one event I presented at that I received recognition by the Head of Group IT was a digital champion event where I was told to present on the digital champion initiative at the last minute in front of all the Team Leaders and Service Leads in the Pudsey building.
