Key Experiences

I studied Economics at Leeds and I'm now a Risk Graduate at LBG
I decided to study Economics at university as it was the subject that I enjoyed the most at A-level and I knew that the degree would offer great career prospects. I then decided to apply for a work placement year between my second and final year at university to get some work experience before graduating. I was successful in my application to Lloyds Banking Group, where I spent the year as an Industrial Placement student in Group Financial Risk, part of the wider Risk Division.I enjoyed the year so much that I decided to continue my career here and I am now part of the Emerging Leadership Scheme as a Risk Graduate.

Current Position

I am a member of the People Risk team
The People Risk team is part of Conduct, Compliance and Operational Risk within the Risk Division. I support my team in delivering oversight activities, such as oversight of the Speak up (whistleblowing) process and other People Risk issues.

Main Motivations

My amazing team
I have a very supportive team who are all very keen to get me involved in their work, which means that I get to learn a lot as the coverage of work that my team looks at is very diverse. They are also very good at helping me with my development needs and suggest further work that I can do to fulfil my objectives, as well as supporting me in shadowing other areas of the bank to build my knowledge of LBG.

Top Advice

Make the most of every opportunity
I think it is important to take opportunities, make the most of them and to push yourself out of your comfort zone. This is the best way to gain knowledge and learn new skills. It's also important not just to wait for opportunities to come to you, but to proactively search for them, or even create them yourself!

Greatest Achievement

I contributed to setting up a Charity Challenge
Whilst on my Industrial Placement (IP) year, I was involved in setting up the IP Charity Challenge. This involved appointing site representatives for the office locations where Industrial Placement students are located and hosting monthly calls to set out our fundraising agenda. I was part of the Halifax charity team who won the challenge, taking part in activities such as a sponsored swim that was the equivalent length of the English channel!
The challenge now runs for successive IP cohorts and over £12,000 was raised in the first year alone, for LBG's charity of the year.
