Hi, your day to day life on the commercial banking grad scheme will depend upon which team you are in. On the scheme you complete 4 six month rotations. The first 3 will be Coverage (client facing), Product (Debt transactions) and Risk and for the final one you will choose either Coverage or Product again.
For example, currently I am on my Product rotation and my role is an analyst in the corporate and institutional debt team (big companies basically) and my daily work involves working on debt deals for these companies (usually about 3-6 active each week). That will include reviewing annual reports, financial accounts and management information in order to write credit papers and build financial models to see whether or not we should lend to said company.

Hi, I have sadly not done my Coverage rotation yet but it would depend upon whether you are working with Small & Medium clients(SME) or large clients. With SME, you will likely have more frequent dealings with the clients and with the larger clients you might work on some particularly exciting debt deals from the relationship side but have less direct contact with the clients, apologies I'm not much help here!

Hi Ben, thank you for your insights! What did you find the most challenging during the rotations you've already done? Is there any support you get from the company to overcome these? :)

Hi Ben could you please even tell us about your AC experience. How it went on the day and what you did to prepare and be successful in it.

I made sure to fully understand and be able to articulate why I wanted to apply to LBG and why particular the Commercial banking graduate scheme - what is it that interest me, what is it that I think I can bring to the scheme.
On my AC I had a bit of a nightmare, my AC was virtual and I couldn't join for the first 15mins and missed part of 1 of the exercises due to poor connection! However, I just tried to do my best and because the ACs are so well organised you have time to get yourself ready for everything inbetween activities

Most challenging maybe writing credit papers (involves financial modelling too). More difficult than it sounds but you get significant help from LBG with this and all grads complete a basic financial risk training module and a non-financial risk training module which greatly helped with that
