It can be very varied! My first placement I’ve been involved in analysing employee engagement data, helping improve an internship scheme and now beginning analysing pay and bonus schemes

Hi Scarlett, everyday is different which keeps it exciting! A general day starts with a team call, going through our tasks for the week and any potential problems we may be facing. I often get given jobs, such as imputing data into a spreadsheet or a PowerPoint presentation for stakeholders. Most Fridays end with a team social or a run down of our successes!

Thank you Jack and Rosary, that is really useful. I have a phone interview coming up , I wondered if you have any advice on how I should prep for it. I have recently graduated as a business management student and I have been really passionate about a role in HR ever since I set up my own business in lockdown, I have taken a few HR modules as part of my university degree. Is this all worth mentioning in the interview?

Hi Scarlett. I would make sure firstly that you do the 'top-level' research about Lloyds' values, purpose and strategy and how you think that the HR function can help drive our transformation (look at the five year plan set out in 2022). With great experience like setting up your own business, you will also be able to link your experiences to the skills required for the role and try to fully articulate how your values match Lloyds. I would definitely mention that experience.

Ok thank you thats great. In your opinion what are some of the key strengths needed in someones skill set for HR and have these changes over the years?

In terms of key strengths for a HR professional, it is important to be able, among other things, to develop and maintain relationships, showcase emotional intelligence and be a clear communicator. The skills that are becoming more important are data analytics and technology related, although at LBG there is a range of learning modules you can go through to improve these skills. Ultimately, they are looking for an individual that has the potential and drive to want to develop.
