I ask this as my current preference is to go down the dev route however as an internal colleague I am also looking at the Data Analytics/Software Engineer apprenticeships and other entry level C grade roles as back up in case I don't succeed in getting on the grad scheme.

Hi Nathaniel, this is my own understanding, might not be the most accurate. The most significant difference in their work styles in my opinion, is that in software engineering you have more defined goals given some requirements, and data analytics/ science involves more 'flexibility' (when you gather and process data to try and conclude some findings). If you're asking about the difference in the technicality, they both involve coding, but data science involves a lot more mathematics/ statistics, whereas software engineering generally has a slightly lower/ less specific entry requirement.

Okay thanks for the reply Laurent, that seems to match my understanding based on what I have read and the kind of coding challenges I have done for both of them.

I honestly feel like I would be pretty well suited to both roles! Maybe I am best off just applying for both Apprenticeships and seeing what happens.
