From an international student to a young HR professional in banking
I grew up in a small city near Warsaw, Poland. After finishing A-levels, I took the first significant step towards realising my dreams by pursuing higher education abroad.
My decision to study abroad at Lancaster University was a transformative moment. Leaving behind the familiar comforts of home, I embraced the challenge of adapting to a new culture, educational system, and language. This experience has broadened my horizons and taught me adaptability as I was also working part-time in retail along with my studies.
My next significant career move was receiving an offer to study a master's in HR Management and Organisational Analysis at King’s College London. The motivation behind this decision was to specialise in the HR area following my passion for the people aspect of business management during my summer internship in operations. It allowed me to delve deeper into HR analytics, organisational analysis, and HR fundamentals. This academic journey has not only enhanced my expertise but also opened the door to the financial services industry where I have now embarked on my professional career.
My most recent career move was securing a position as an HR Generalist Graduate at Lloyds Banking Group. Driven by a passion for all things HR and a desire for growth, I am looking forward to contributing to strategic initiatives and influencing the future of the people function in the group. Undoubtedly, the graduate application journey was a particularly challenging one but it can also lead to opportunities you may have never imagined.
I support the development of learning courses for 67000 colleagues
In my first rotation of the HR graduate scheme, I am part of the Organisation& Capabilities division, specifically within the Learning Team. This team is responsible for addressing the extensive training needs of a workforce consisting of 67.000 colleagues across various roles and business units across the group. Some of my responsibilities include collaborating with subject matter experts to bring learning enhancements to life. This includes the core training elements that all colleagues complete. I am also responsible for various aspects of project management. Lastly, I look strategically at the skills needed to ensure the continuous success of the organisation and help colleagues achieve them.
The opportunity to make a tangible impact on colleagues' development
What I appreciate most about my current role is its capacity to influence colleagues’ growth and our group’s overall effectiveness.
Never give up - your destination is what counts!
The graduate application journey can be incredibly challenging. However, what truly pushes us forward is our commitment to our goals and the perseverance to overcome obstacles that ultimately shape our success. My most important piece of advice is as follows: Your past is important but it’s your unwavering commitment to your dreams and the determination to overcome challenges and failures that will lead you to the remarkable destinations you aspire to reach. “It doesn’t matter where you are coming from, all that matters is where you are going.”
