I would love to know what a typical day looks like on the commercial grad programme?

Hi Katie! Thanks for joining. I'm currently on the commercial graduate programme. This is quite a difficult question - as no day looks the same! Depending on the type of placement you are on, the team you are in, and where you are working, every day will be very different. I'm currently sitting on the DCM desk in Bond Financing. A typical day for me at the moment includes a morning daily report, replying to emails, some client meetings, a trip outside for lunch, additional client meetings in the afternoon and maybe a coffee with a colleague!

Hi Katie great question! I'm on the CB grad programme in the Corporate & institutional Debt team (big companies basically) and typically my day includes researching the companies that we are planning to lend too, so this can include annual reports / broker reports / management info and then writing credit papers & building financial models, essentially assessing whether or not we should lend to them. I am typically on about 4 active deals at any one time, so there is a lot of variety and i get to work with many different people in the team (and have lots of coffees trips!)

Thanks for organising this chat - very helpful question and answers.
Hi Ben, how would CB team meet clients? For example, you mention that you are working on 4 different deals now so how would you normally catch up with clients to provide updates? would that be email / meeting call / going for coffee / business meal? I assume it would depend on situation? Thank you!

Hi Loannis, you are right it depends largely on the situation, and our team are not a relationship team, so we will have less contact with the clients than the Coverage (relationship management) teams. However, there will still be emails / calls with clients providing updates from our end or if we are missing information that we need for our analysis that they can give us, and some of the directors in our team will go out to meet clients for meals, but i don't think that is very often, especially at the moment!
