Hi, I have a question regarding what a graduate in the technology engineering programme be like? would be be allowed time to work on pet projects which may be implemented to Lloyds banking group as a whole? And furthermore, would there be an opportunities for further learning via company sponsored/hosted hackathons?

Hi Chang, thank you for your question! You would normally be working on tickets related to your role in the majority of your time, however there is definitely some time to work on side-of-desk projects as well as to learn new technologies. There are also hackathons organised in every quarter by the business that are addressing some real business problem. Myself and a team of other graduates were lucky enough to win one of these and we got to present to senior leaders within the business, so the ideas are also carried forward and there is a chance that they'll end up in production :)

That sounds fantastic, and thanks for your reply. Further adding to the question, you mentioned the role is by ticket basis, does that mean that as a technology engineering graduate the tickets would come from all business area within Lloyds Banking Group (LBG)?

That's a great question! Most of the graduates are working in feature teams, so you would normally work on a specific product. Agile working and scrum is also very widely used within the business, so you would usually work in sprints. There are however some teams that are in more of a supporting function and they may pick up requests from the broader business.

That sounds interesting. I have another question, would there be frequent company out-of-the-clock events for networking? albeit, between graduates and senior staff.

There are definitely some opportunities to meet both with fellow graduates and more senior staff within the business. There are regular Q&A sessions with senior leaders and there is also a mentoring programme where you can reach out to a senior leader who can work with you on a 1-2-1 basis to support with your career development. There are also some organised trainings and events where you get the chance to meet with the other grads too :)

Good to know, and thanks Krisztian. I have one last question, what advice would you give to a graduate who may potentially be accepted into LBG as a technology engineering? Or any mistakes you have seen graduates taken.

I think the most important thing is the willingness to learn new things and to feed back your opinion to your team. Graduates are in a way in a unique position where they can bring some unique insights and different ways of working into the business and in my experience their opinion is very much appreciated!
