From studying Modern Languages at Cambridge to working at LBG
I chose to study Modern Languages because different cultures and ways of life always fascinated me growing up. At the same time, I joined the Cambridge Women in Business Network and began exploring my options after university. I knew I had good business/financial acumen, wanted to do meaningful, challenging work in a psychologically safe environment, and was ambitious. LBG's sustainable finance agenda and purpose of 'Helping Britain Prosper' therefore resonanted with me strongly, as well as their strong diversity and inclusion commitments. I therefore applied for their Sustainable Financial Wellbeing graduate scheme, and never looked back!
Customer Vulnerability & Inclusion Assistant Manager
I work in one of our Customer Experience teams, ensuring our vulnerable customers receive good outcomes and that we avoid causing foreseeable harm.
It's very meaningful, stimulating work and my team is wonderful
Making sure our vulnerable customers are well-cared for and that we are constantly innovating and improving to best provide for them is really meaningful work.
Be proactive and don't get in your own way!
Be proactive - chances are your dream job won't fall into your lap right away! Ask the right people the right questions, reach out to people on LinkedIn, value the expertise and experience of others and actively seek it out. Also, don't get in your own way - believe in your own skills and abilities, remind yourself of how far you've come, and remember rejection is normal and not a reflection of your potential. Just a reflection of one impression at one moment in time and an opportunity for self-improvement and growth - humble yourself to be open to constructive feedback!
Graduating with a first from Cambridge
Cambridge was hard-work. But I got through it, and made it to the other side. I proved a lot to myself - of what I'm capable of when I put my mind to something and of how resilient I am. I carry that with me even now in my new job.
